Hear yee, hear yee! The votes are in and the world’s 5 douchiest DJs have been announced. The winners are – Steve Aoki, Steve Aoki, Steve Aoki, Steve Aoki AND STEVE AOKI. In all “seriousness,” Pulse compiled a list that included other DJs besides Steve Aoki, although he will clearly always be the biggest (and least talented) douche. Here is that list.
Every week I will be writing an article for the wonderful people at MovesMagazine.com. This week, I chose to write about the 5 songs that I listened to this morning. You can read the entire article RIGHT HERE. Here is a little taste to whet your appetite…
As a music producer and DJ, I spend a majority of my waking hours listening to, creating and mixing music. The first thing that I do each day is cue up a few of my favorites, alongside songs that I have been meaning to listen to. This is how I spend the first hour or so of my morning, assuming I am not changing diapers and dealing with a screaming baby.
Here are 5 songs that I listened to this morning.
Daktyl & Howie Lee – Marlena

This is definitely one of my favorite songs at the moment. It’s incredibly unique, with slightly off beat drums and a heavy future bass line that blows my mind every time I listen. This one is guaranteed to set my day off right…
As many of you know, I have been consistently fighting copyright issues and song takedowns on Soundcloud for the past 3 years, finding ways to keep my music online to share with my fans. I have come to an impasse – I now have the maximum number of strikes allowed on Soundcloud, and have been forced to remove all of my tracks from my account in a last ditch effort to keep my fan base intact. This means that I have effectively been erased from the internet – my music has disappeared from the thousands of blogs that have shared my work via the Soundcloud widget and from every Facebook page and social media post where my songs have been shared. My Soundcloud account averaged almost 20K listens per day, with a total of nearly 20 million in the past couple of years – and I was gaining hundreds of new fans each week.
Over the years I have tried a number of things to combat copyright issues – I have posted my work to Legitmix and thefuture.fm, both legal sites that protect my work. However, my fans have never followed as they prefer to listen to my work on Soundcloud. I have spoken with the labels (one of my three strikes comes from an official remix!), worked with lawyers and called in favors. At this point, this is the only reasonable course of action that remains. While I would love to write a treatise on the many issues with American copyright law and with the archaic thinking employed by the major labels, I will save that for another day. For now, I would like to find a way for you, my family, friends and fans, to continue to enjoy my music.
I have uploaded almost all of my work to www.youtube.com/scottmelker. Further, over the coming weeks I will be uploading everything directly to my blog – https://themelkerproject.com/. You will always be able to find my music there, so please check in on a regular basis. There is an email submission form on the right side of the site – please send over your address so that I can send my music directly.
I hope that you choose to continue to listen to my music, as I will continue to make it for you. Thank you.
For #TBT this week, I am sharing one of my favorite remixes that flew largely under the radar. This was one of my favorite songs in the 90s, so I updated it with a new crunk hip hop sound. Enjoy!
TRILLER IS HERE! For the sixth and final installment of my classic artist EP series, I chose to focus on the immense catalogue of my favorite artist of all time, Michael Jackson.
The project features a trap infused remix of “Thriller,” the already-gone-viral hip hop mix of “Beat It,” and a redo of “Human Nature,” reminiscent of the 90s R&B tracks that are a staple of my playlists. I also created an acoustic version of “Man In The Mirror” mixed with Chris Brown’s sultry vocals, and a Mike Will Made It-esque remix of Dirty Diana, mixed with Future, Pusha T and Pharrell that is my personal favorite on the album.
Listen to the entire project and download it for free right HERE.
Also, Triller T-Shirts are now available for a limited time! If you like what I do, please buy a shirt and support my work. Get them RIGHT HERE!
Here is your first glimpse of Triller, my final EP focusing on a classic artist. The 5 song project focuses on the immense catalogue of the King Of Pop. Triller was a major challenge to complete, considering the breadth of Michael Jackson’s music and the sacred nature of his songs. “F.D.B.eat It” features a dirty south, trap and crunk infused remix of the MJ classic “Beat It,” with the vocals of Young Dro’s hit “F.D.B.” The entire project drops on October 29th on Uproxx – get ready!
PLEASE listen and HEART on HYPEM here. This is the best way to help the track go viral!
Check out the official premiere of the track on BROBIBLE right HERE!
Watch this video, get excited for the release of the first track from TRILLER tomorrow. You’ll thank me later.
I wish I could say that I am surprised by this, but music fans are clearly shying away from purchasing music in favor of streaming and illegal downloads. Couple that with the fact that most people buy singles instead of full albums and you have the perfect storm. What’s the last album you actually bought? Could you listen to it all of the way through without skipping half of the crappy tracks? Doubt it. Read the whole article on FORBES HERE.
